Description:
Pakistan is regardedas being both water scarce and water stressed, which signifies an escalatingcompetition among the agricultural, domestic, and industrial sectors for waterresources. This has led to major cities experiencing acute water shortages, deterioratingwater quality, and significant declines in groundwater tables across thecountry. Sindh for example, the nation's primary commercial hub and its secondmost extensive province, encompassing 17.7% of the country's total area, isparticularly vulnerable to these challenges.IFC is commissioning a study which aims at gathering data and outline key success factors to tackle thepressing challenges of the industrial water sector in two provinces (Sindh andPunjab), leveraging more private sector participation.The Consultant-sscope of work consist of the following tasks: (i) analyzing the flows and thecosts of water for main industrial users (ii) reviewing existing provincialstrategies and policy directions for industrial water management; (iii) establishinga stakeholders map outlining the prerogatives of each actors at provinciallevel (iv) summarizing the water challenges and the current technical optionsand responses of the industrial players (v) detailing the enabling factors andthe barriers for adaption, including law enforcement, financing options,technology availability, etc. and (vi) formulating scenariosfor private sector mobilization highlighting the risks and the key successfactors.
